One key difference from the past is an unprecedented opportunity to coordinate and collaborate with multiple planning efforts that are underway in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. The teams that are managing these projects are in regular communication, sharing community feedback and project milestones, as well as participating in each other’s community engagement efforts where possible.

Center City Growth Projections

Charlotte Center City Partners, the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County are currently updating the Center City Vision Plan. To support this effort, they wanted an economic analysis completed to help understand the development and growth potential for the Study Area over the next 20 years. Forecasts for population and employment growth are needed to assess the demand for new development (by asset type) and the area’s capacity to serve this growth. The forecasts will be used to develop targets for the types of development and change feasible over the plan horizon. This assessment will allow the MIG team to identify policy directives, interventions, and investments that can be made to better guide future growth.

Charlotte Future 2040
Comprehensive Plan

The Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan is a plan that will guide how our whole city grows and how we invest in our city over the next 20 years. Once completed, it will be a living document that takes community input and ideas and turns them into the actions that guide our city’s decision-making in both the near- and long-term.

The Envision My Ride: Bus Corridor Study will begin to identify ways to enhance the speed and reliability of the bus network. This study will determine how corridor specific "bus treatments" can be implemented to provide quicker commutes for riders. Examples include dedicated bus only lanes to improve speed and reliability, queue jumpers that allow buses to jump ahead at a traffic light and transit signal priority for buses at key intersections.
